Poem by Bob Andrew about the "Wall" in Darwin
When the Wall was first proposed the stated objective was “to provide a historical record, in one place, of ALL Allied personnel who died as a result of combat action in the Northern Territory in World War 2.” The poem gives a fairly complete picture of the categories of people recorded. Much work was involved in researching the names and details of those who lost their lives. The numbers of the fallen are :
Australian Navy 66; Australian Army 207; RAAF 560; US Navy 121; US Army Air Force 311 plus US Army 20; Other Military Forces 224; Civilian 163. Total 1672.
